As a press organization, we at The Yomiuri Shimbun have played a key role in fostering healthy dialogue, the essence of democracy, through the creation and publication of newspapers. Simultaneously, we have diversified and stabilized our business in spheres beyond newspaper publishing, thereby ensuring that our reporting will not be biased by specific interest groups in society. This diversification has also allowed us to contribute to culture, the arts, sports and education. Our sales grid handles home deliveries of newspapers and has contributed to maintaining the links in local communities and vitalizing them further. As Japan's population continues to shrink and age, the role of that sales grid will become even greater. In this section, we touch on some of our social contributions.
